“The well that waters the lost of this world, will never run dry. I am convinced that the new Calcutta Mercy Ministries will be the instrument God will use to continue the great work that Mark and Huldah Buntain began in Calcutta over 55 years ago. When I see what has been accomplished in the past, and observe the passion and dedication of Huldah Buntain, her Daughter Bonnie, along with her husband Dr. Jim Long I know that the future of the ministry is assured.”

Calcutta Mercy Hospital

In 1977 the Buntains opened a general hospital devoted to providing the best affordable medical care in the region. Since its inception, the hospital has provided hope and healing to the poor who have no access to healthcare. Today the hospital is a six-story facility housing 173 beds. The hospital has two critical care units and a surgeon on call around the clock. Leading experts in areas such as cardiac care, orthopedics, general surgery, neonatology, gastrointestinal care, obstetrics and gynecology staff thirty different multi-specialty centers. Centrally located in the heart of Calcutta, the hospital is setting a new standard for providing excellent and compassionate medical services
at an affordable cost. Because of the hospital’s outstanding reputation, patients come from Calcutta and surrounding areas including the neighboring country of Bangladesh. The income from paying patients such as these enables the hospitall to provide free treatment to those who cannot afford to pay.

The hospital in Calcutta will always be a place of healing and transformation for anyone in need regardless of
their religion, gender or social class. Over 40,000 patients receive compassionate and excellent medical care each year
at no cost. These medical services range from general care to blindness eradication programs and free thalassemia and
leukemia treatments. In addition, the hospital will provide over 500 free cleft palate surgeries over the next twelve months
through a partnership with The Smile Train. Through the medical care the hospital provides, the poor and
marginalized can live productive lives as members of mainstream society.
